Les Belles Perles Cotillion

History of the Les Belles Perles Cotillion

The Les Belles Perles Cotillion was started under the leadership and direction of Mrs. Lois Lee Killings. Shortly after assuming the role of President in June of 1980, she brought to the membership the idea of sponsoring a cotillion for senior high school young ladies in the community. Mrs. Killings volunteered to serve as the Chairperson, which was in addition to her role as the Chapter President. For approximately a year-and-a-half, the entire Chapter worked on bringing our Cotillion to the community. Every member had a role on the committee and it was a chapter project that many favorably endorsed and painstakingly made certain that the Cotillion would be the event of the community.

Fast forward 36 years later and the Cotillion is our signature event. Since 1982, the Akron Alumnae Chapter has presented a total of 655 debutantes representing a total of 25 different high schools.  Additionally, we have awarded more than $400,000 in awards to our debutantes, which they have used towards college and post-secondary education.

The members of our Chapter recognize the importance of the Cotillion in our community. We have begun an Alumnae Association for our past Debutantes. We are always seeking updates on any of our former debutantes. Please submit information to the Chapter @ Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Akron Alumnae Chapter, P.O.
